MESSAGE FROM RESEARCH DIRECTOR

At the Sankara Academy of Vision, we are committed to advancing vision research from the molecular intricacies of non-coding RNA to cutting-edge AI technologies and stem cells. Our goal is to understand the biology of visual disorders and enhance diagnosis and treatment. Our research spans from pediatric to geriatric ophthalmology and fosters a synergy between ophthalmology and optometry. By incorporating holistic practices like yoga and utilizing retinal imaging to diagnose neurodegenerative diseases, we aim to fuse mental and visual health. This integrative approach is set to revolutionize eye care, enhance overall well-being, and push the boundaries of medical science.

Prof. Dr. T.R Raju
Research Director, Sankara Eye Foundation, India

Our Focus

We strongly believe that vision research should be pursued from non-coding RNA to evolving state-of-the-art technology to diagnose & treat visual impairment.
Current research focus encompass paediatric to geriatric ophthalmology and looks to develop a synergy between ophthalmology and optometry.

Our Approach

Frame 3

Sankara Eye Foundation’s research is focused on eliminating preventable blindness through groundbreaking research and innovation. By 2030, Sankara aims to achieve path-breaking advancements in eye care, including the development of novel processes, products, and AI-driven technologies. Establishing centres of excellence across multiple hospitals is a key component of this strategy.

A structured research culture, led by President of Medical Administration, Quality, Medical Education, and Research, Dr. Kaushik Murali, and Director of Research, Dr. T.R. Raju, ensures compliance with ethical norms and promotes oversight through standardized procedures. The establishment of a dedicated research office under their guidance is designed to make research operations more efficient and impactful.

Academic research is integrated into DNB ophthalmology, fellowship programs in all ophthalmic sub specialties, and optometry curricula, fostering collaboration between ophthalmology and optometry. Collaborative projects with institutes of eminence drive translational research, while industry partnerships help prototype cutting-edge eye care technologies and devices.

Research spans from non-coding RNA to AI-powered solutions that scale detection and treatment of visual disorders for larger populations. Current programs cover pediatric to geriatric ophthalmology, with a focus on integrating holistic approaches and behavioral interventions.

With 126 Institutional Ethics Committee-approved studies, multiple patent filings, and dedicated research ethics training, Sankara Eye Foundation India is at the forefront of vision research, setting new standards in global eye care.
